WorkshopsSomatic Experiencing
At Present Mind, our Somatic Experiencing Workshops offer a gentle, supportive space to reconnect with your body and nervous system. This workshop is designed to help you understand how stress and emotion live in the body and to teach practical tools for grounding, regulation, and inner steadiness. Whether you’re seeking relief, clarity, or simply a moment to breathe, this experience invites you to slow down, tune in, and feel more present within yourself.
What Is a Somatic Experiencing Workshop?
A Somatic Experiencing workshop teaches participants how stress, anxiety, and trauma show up in the body and how to work with the nervous system to restore balance. Instead of focusing only on talking or thinking, this approach helps people notice physical sensations, understand their body’s responses, and learn practical tools for grounding and regulation.
Somatic Experiencing is gentle, accessible, and designed to support safety. Participants are never required to share personal stories or do anything uncomfortable. Think of it as nervous system skills training, learning how to recognize what your body is communicating with and how to respond with care.
What You’ll Learn
Grounding – Noticing your feet on the floor, the support of the chair, or the environment around you to
help the body feel present and safe.
Tracking Sensation – Paying attention to internal sensations without judgment — such as tightness, warmth,
relaxation, or movement. This helps to better understand the body’s signals.
Orienting – Gently looking around the room and noticing colors, sounds, textures, or light that help
the nervous system settle.
Pendulation – Learning to move attention between areas of discomfort and areas of ease, helping the
body shift out of overwhelm.
Titration – Approaching stressful emotions or sensations slowly and in small doses, rather than diving
into intensity all at once.
Breath Awareness – Not forcing deep breathing, but noticing the natural rhythm of the breath and how the
body responds.
Movement & Discharge – Allowing natural movements — stretching, shaking, pushing, or gentle motion to help
release stored tension or stress energy..
Resourcing – Connecting with memories, people, places, or experiences that help the body feel calmer,
safer, and more supported.
Boundary Exercises – Practicing saying “no,” creating space, and noticing what feels comfortable or
uncomfortable in the body.
Why It Matters
Somatic Experiencing helps people reconnect with their bodies, build resilience, and develop tools to navigate stress more effectively. It’s a supportive, educational, empowering approach that meets participants exactly where they are.
